A Northern Slant On Life

yeah..yeah..yeah…dad

We’ve had a lovely, lovely weekend. As I mentioned eons ago in a post, we have decided to stay put where we live, instead of moving house. So we’ve started renovating the house and intend to extend. The boys’ share a room at the moment. Also, our bathroom is downstairs. We are adding an extra bedroom, putting the bathroom upstairs and adding an extension to the already existing two bedrooms.

We’re extending the kitchen and we’ve put a dividing wall up to separate a large room so we end up with a cosy living room, large dining room and a very long kitchen and my sewing room is at the end. We take nothing away from the garden – back and front, and we get all that interior space.

So, yesterday, John started work in the dividing wall and we now have two separate spaces instead of a through/open plan lounge. The boys amused themselves pretty much all day – bless ‘em – while John did most of the work and I supervised and made endless tea while decluttering at the same time. He finished the job all except fitting the door around lunch time today. So, we got dressed for going out, had a gorgeous tea together, and the boys went to the soft-play place beforehand.

The weekend was quiet and we felt like we’d accomplished something and starting making progress on the house to put our very own stamp on it. It feels good!

We both praised the boys for being so good yesterday and told them they were pleasure to take anywhere as they are fantastically behaved whenever we go anywhere. We told them we were very proud of them. So much, so, that dad added…’Just for being so good boys you can go on the playstation all day – yesterday!‘ I was quietly giggling and then the penny dropped with Joe and he groaned. He told Harry that dad was being funny and all we could hear was a …’Yeah, yeah, dad.’ ‘Very funny!’

This picture wasn’t taken today but I thought it captured the joke well with the expression on Joe’s face! :D Good job they took it with good humour. And yes, they did get to go on the PS2 for an hour when we got back.

LOL. Yeah, dads make the worst jokes. I can totally sympathize with your son. LOL. But it was great that they did get to use the playstation for a while and it was even better that you communicated to them how proud you were of them. I think that is as important as letting them know when we disapprove. I’m excited for your renovation plans! Keep us posted with pics and stuff when you can!

Sounds like your boys are great! And it’s always important to praise them for the good behaviour, to encourage it to continue! LOL at Dad’s joke … too funny!! (NOT!) … my Dad is a bit like that too so I know their pain!! ;-)

Renovation plans sound exciting!
